Jan 30, 2025

PGS Group, the European leader in new and reconditioned wooden pallets, announces its entry into the Italian market. This follows the acquisition of Beretta Pallets, a historic family-owned company based in Mapello, in the province of Bergamo. This acquisition represents a significant new milestone in PGS Group’s international development and reaffirms its ambition to strengthen its presence at the heart of Europe’s major industrial regions.

A century of industrial expertise, carried forward within PGS Group

Founded in 1920 in Bergamo by Luigi Beretta, Beretta Pallets has long been recognized as a key player in the Italian wood industry. In the 1960s, the company was among the pioneers of pallet manufacturing, laying the foundations for its current core activities.

Since 2011, Beretta Pallets has been located in Mapello, in close proximity to Milan and Brescia, on a strategically positioned site covering 23,500 mē, including 6,000 mē of industrial facilities.

Significant investments to triple production capacity

With this acquisition, PGS integrates a site combining the production of new pallets with the reconditioning of used pallets, offering both standard and customized solutions.

PGS has already initiated major industrial investments. Two new production lines, drying kilns and a paint cabin will become operational from March 2026, significantly enhancing the site’s capabilities by tripling annual production capacity to 1.5 million pallets.

The location in Mapello also offers space for further expansion. Valerio Ruspino, Managing Director of Beretta Pallets, has been appointed to oversee the development of PGS Group’s activities in the Italian market. The current team of 15 employees will be gradually expanded over the medium term.

A strategic presence in a high-potential market

“Italy was a logical and strategic step for PGS. Lombardy is one of Europe’s industrial heartlands, and many of our international customers are already established there,” said Luc Grauwet, CEO of PGS Group. “Beretta Pallets stands out for its expertise, its loyal customer base and its family-driven DNA, values that are fully aligned with those of PGS.”
