Real order intake in the German construction industry rose by
7.7 percent in September 2025 compared with August, after
adjustment for calendar and seasonal effects. This brought the
index of new orders to its highest level since March 2022, as
reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on
Tuesday.
Compared with the previous month, order intake rose by 1.7
percent in building construction and by 13.2 percent in civil
engineering. In the less volatile three-month comparison,
calendar and seasonally adjusted order intake from July 2025 to
September 2025 was 4.0 percent higher than in the previous three
months (building construction: +3.5 percent; civil engineering:
+4.5 percent).
Compared with September 2024, real, calendar-adjusted order
intake in the main construction sector rose by 20.7 percent in
September 2025. This increase is attributable, among other
things, to the impact of large orders and to the fact that the
figure for the same month last year was relatively low compared
with the previous three years. In building construction, order
intake rose by 18.9 percent in September 2025 and by 22.4
percent in civil engineering. Nominal (non-price-adjusted) order
intake was 25.8 percent above the previous year's level.
Real turnover in the main construction sector was 5.1 percent
higher in September 2025 than in the same month of the previous
year, according to the Federal Statistical Office. Nominal
turnover rose by 7.4 percent to 10.9 billion euros in the same
period. In the first nine months of 2025, turnover rose by 1.5
percent in real terms and 4.0 percent in nominal terms compared
with the same period of the previous year. The number of people
employed in the main construction sector rose by 1.5 percent in
September 2025 compared to the same month last year.
