The first edition of the Hamburg Timber Construction Forum
2025/26 will feature, among other things, the HORTUS office
building in Allschwil, designed by Herzog & de Meuron
The Hamburg Timber Construction Forum 2025/26 kicks off with the
theme “Material mix in timber construction.” Two current
projects demonstrate how timber can be used in an
architecturally and technically exemplary manner in combination
with clay or other materials.
On November 26, the forum will open the season at the Free
Academy of Arts in Hamburg. Under the motto “Getting the most
out of it: timber construction in material mixes,” two projects
will be presented: the culture and sports hall in Alfter, winner
of the German Timber Construction Award 2025, and the HORTUS
timber-clay office building in Allschwil.
The event will show how wood and non-wood products can be
combined in a targeted manner to meet the highest architectural
and technical standards. Hamburg's commitment to
climate-friendly construction will form the thematic prelude.
The City of Hamburg focuses on resource-efficient
construction
Annika Meisner from the Ministry of Environment, Climate,
Energy, and Agriculture (BUKEA) explains the city's strategy for
climate-friendly construction. The focus is on new funding
guidelines for wood and other sustainable materials. These are
intended to provide incentives for resource-efficient and
recyclable construction.
